چکیده
Abstract. The Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) was a limb-viewing infrared Fourier transform spectrometer that operated from 2002 to 2012 aboard the Environmental Satellite (ENVISAT). final re-processing of full MIPAS mission Level 2 data performed with ESA operational version 8 (v8) processor. This dataset includes not only retrieval results pressure–temperature and standard species H2O, O3, HNO3, CH4, N2O, NO2 but also vertical profiles volume mixing ratios more difficult-to-retrieve molecules N2O5, ClONO2, CFC-11, CFC-12 (included since v6 processing), HCFC-22, CCl4, CF4, COF2, HCN v7 processing). Finally, C2H2, C2H6, COCl2, OCS, CH3Cl, HDO were additionally retrieved by v8 balloon-borne limb-emission sounder MIPAS-B precursor satellite instrument. Several flights carried out during 10-year phase ENVISAT at different latitudes seasons, including both periods when measured spectral resolution (FR mode) optimised (OR mode). All products (except HDO) compared inferred dedicated validation limb sequences MIPAS-B. To enhance statistics profile comparisons, trajectory match method has been applied search coincidences along d forward backward trajectories running measurement geolocations. study gives an overview based on comprising FR OR observation periods. assessment agreement sensors, taking into account combined errors instruments. differences between temperature instruments generally stays within ±2 K in stratosphere. For most gases – namely NO2, CFC-12, we find 5 %–20 % level lower however, larger (within 20 %–50 %) appear this altitude range.

Overview of Mipas Operational Products
After 2 years of quasi continuously operations (from July 2002 to March 2004), MIPAS on ENVISAT was stopped due to problems in the mirror drive of the interferometer. Operations with reduced spectral resolution and a new measurement scenario were resumed in January 2005. Significant modifications were performed in the ESA operational processor in both the algorithms and the auxiliary data. Perf...

Altitude profiles of ClONO2 retrieved with the IMK (Institut für Meteorologie und Klimaforschung) science-oriented data processor from MIPAS/Envisat (Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding on Envisat) mid-infrared limb emission measurements between July 2002 and March 2004 have been validated by comparison with balloon-borne (Mark IV, FIRS2, MIPASB), airborne (MIPAS-STR), gro...
متن کاملValidation of MIPAS HNO3 operational data
Nitric acid (HNO3) is one of the key products that are operationally retrieved by the European Space Agency (ESA) from the emission spectra measured by the Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS) onboard ENVISAT. The product version 4.61/4.62 for the observation period between July 2002 and March 2004 is validated by comparisons with a number of independent observation...
متن کاملPrecision validation of MIPAS-Envisat products
This paper discusses the variation and validation of the precision, or estimated random error, associated with the ESA Level 2 products from the Michelson Interferometer for Passive Atmospheric Sounding (MIPAS). This quantity represents the propagation of the radiometric noise from the spectra through the retrieval process into the Level 2 profile values. The noise itself varies with time, stea...
